Squier brand is quite popular around the world. The first reason for that is that they provide inexpensive electric solid body guitars with good quality standards. They have lots of guitar models under $200 which makes them affordable for entry-level musicians and at the same time durability, playability and sounding of Squier guitars are quite good.
Another reason for such popularity is the fact that Squier provides affordable legal copies of Fender guitars. Squier is actually owned by Fender, so buying a Squier guitar you get more than an average entry-level guitar. These guitars are made to the specifications of Fender but with less expensive components.
The brand itself has quite long history. V.C. Squier Company was established in 1890 in Battle Creeck, Michigan by Victor Carroll Squier and initially it was a strings company. They produced hand-wound violin strings of a very high quality at good prices. In 1950-s V.C. Squier began supplying strings to Leo Fender and in 1963 they became an official OEM for Fender. In 1965 it was bought by Fender Musical Instruments Corporation, but the first Fender Squier guitar was introduced only in 1982.
You will rarely find a professional musician that would rely on Squier. But if you’re considering Squier as a potential candidate for your first guitar, that will be great choice.
